Elder Field Whitewashes! (He Never Wants To Do It Again)

Hey guys!

So last email I talked about all the changes that would be happening haha let me enlighten you on the result of all the changes!

So first to start out, I got a new companion! His name is Elder Ricks! He is pretty cool, we actually get along really well, he comes from a family of 5 and he is the youngest, he is from South Jordan, Utah. So two good old Utah boys haha. We both are 100% new to the area, so it's been a struggle just to get on our feet hahaha. He also is a district leader, so we are co-district leaders, which is cool. We have our first district meeting on Tuesday, so we will see how that goes haha.. I have high hopes so should be fun :)

I'm in the Rincon Valley ward! In Santa Rosa! haha So I'm actually in the ward next door to President Wright’s ward haha it's quite weird seeing him as often as I do haha I don't know if I like it or hate it. President is the coolest guy on the planet though. He teased me the other day in the district leader meeting we had on Friday. He was talking about motivating our districts and how to do it. He then looked at me and said, in front of everyone mind you, "Elder Field! How did you do it?"

"How did I do what President? "

"Your previous district is in mourning. I got 5 emails the other day telling me how mad and distraught they were that I was taking you away.  They say “I can't believe you took Elder Field away. President how could you!” and Elder Field I'm starting to feel a little hated down there haha"

Hahaha apparently I did something right down in San Rafael, but to be honest I miss the missionaries down there a lot, they were my family out here haha, I will hopefully see them again. I get to see them at zone conference, so I will be counting down the days haha. But until then I will try and develop the same sense of family and community in the new district, anywho!

So this week has been insane! I feel like I have just been running and running but haven't been getting anywhere hahaha! It’s a strange feeling. So we started Tuesday off with a lot of good byes. The hardest people to say goodbye to was the district and the Schroeders, I talk about them a lot haha but they are good people haha! So after 4 or 5 phone calls to different district members and other people from the ward, we got to Santa Rosa, said goodbye to Elder Siebach and found Elder Ricks and the race began. We went to go find the sisters, who were previously in our area, we talked to them from a brief second and then they had to peace ou,t so they took off we got their phone and car but the apartment keys were missing. Unfortunately, we weren't moving into their apartment, so they started searching for the keys to our actual apartment. Well the apartment hasn't been lived in for 5 months soooooo they lost the keys, so we waited in the mission office for 45 mins while they went to go get new keys.

Once we got our keys, we went with the apartment coordinator senior missionary couple to go and check it out......  Well.....  It was.....  Haha interesting, very messy dusty, and just gross, so we planned that day and the next to clean,  because we weren't able to do it all in one day haha so the first two days were spent cleaning the apartment from top to bottom. It was fun, got to know the companion, but yeah it was fun. We had some awesome dinners with the few ward members we have met. They apparently have been wanting Elders in the ward for a while now, for the past 4 years they have had sisters and we are their first set of elders since then haha.

We met our first investigator (and I'm pretty sure only one)  Gabriel. Don't know much about him because he really hasn't opened up to us at all, but he is cool, he is a nice guy. He has had a Baptismal date before but it didn't go through, but he is still progressing, the ward loves this guy soooooo haha there is some pressure on getting the guy baptized but all is well he will be baptized sooner or later. Hopefully we can help him progress to that.

We met the ward on Sunday. Bishop has only been bishop for 4 weeks haha so he is brand new, so he is in the same boat as us. They gave us some names to go see so this week so we are going to go see, and we have a lot of finding planned haha going to pick us up some new investigators!

Oh I almost forgot! The world Wide missionary broadcast was a couple of days ago! The missionary schedule was changed just a little bit. We now only have 30 min lunches and we can go to bed at 9:30 if we want to! So cool stuff! There were some other changes that really didn't effect much but yeah cool stuff!

Man this week was a tough one but it was good.  I have been truly learning how to fully depend on God this week. Especially going into a new area that me and my companion know nothing about. We have been really relying in God to guide us. I have always struggled to put my trust in God to be 100% honest. But I'm working on it. There was something good in my last ward, someone got up and talked on this specific subject, they said what does it take for us to trust someone? Well you have to know them, you have to have a personal connection with them. You need to know what makes them, them. So from this moment on for the rest of my mission. And hopefully longer than that. I’m going to get to know Christ haha. I'm reading about his life in the New Testament.   I'm reading Jesus the Christ, and I got to permission to read The Infinite Atonement, which I am excited about!! I just want to know my savior, and what he has done for me. That way I can more fully put my trust in him. And of course I still need to just have faith and do things anyway which I'm doing I just want to know more about him anyway :) So if anyone knows anything else I should read or questions to ponder let me know, I want to absorb everything I can.

Anyway I think that's all for this week! Love you guys! Hopefully your weeks were good!

Love you all!

Elder Field Has Got Quite A Week Ahead Of Him!

TRANSFERS!!!! That's right folks it's that time again. And the results are in! Elder Field will be.........

*cough*

*clears throat*

Transferred to Santa Rosa! And I'm leaving tomorrow  Haha that right I'm being transferred just a little bit north into the Rincon valley ward. But here is the scary part. I'm still district leader. We'll, actually I'm co-district leader. Not sure how that will work out but we will see hahaha I'm kind of nervous. And! I will be whitewashing. For those who don't know what that means, this means that me and my companion are both new to the area. Both of the previous missionaries that were in the area are being transferred out, and we are being out in. I'm slightly terrified. This also means that these are my final moments with elder Siebach and I am freaking sad about that :( I love Elder Siebach..... But I know it's for the best and he will do great in the mission field haha hopefully I trained him well haha :/ ;)  my new companion is named elder Ricks. I have no clue who he is and no one that I'm currently serving around knows him either haha so I'm nervous about that. Hopefully he likes to work hard and have fun hahaha ;)  if not he is going to hate me ;)

This also means I'm leaving my beloved district. Never have I grown so close to a group of people in my life. I freaking love them all so much. It's quite strange to think that I have only known these people for 6-12 weeks. I feel like I have known them for a life time. And if course as we all know I have known them for a lifetime. The pre-existence is an awesome thing! And I know I will know these people for another lifetime. Or at least they promise me they won't forget me haha. Hopefully they remain true to that promise ;) so yeah I'm going into a new area knowing none of the missionaries or any of the investigators or members.....  Yikes....  Hahaha hopefully all goes well! Wish me luck haha

Anyway I guess I will hop into the nitty-gritty of the week!  :)

So other than just stressing all week about transfers haha we actually got a lot of work done. We had our last 2 lessons with little Liam this week :) we taught him all the commandments and all of the laws and ordinances. Or course in really simple terms and what not haha. It was nice to teach them that simply because now I know how to and now I have OFFICIALLY TAUGHT EVERY MISSIONARY LESSON! Hahaha sad I know right we don't get to teach the last 3 lessons very much haha I'm glad we got some good practice.

We had our last district meeting. And it was probably the coolest/greatest district meeting I have ever been in attendance of. The thing I was supposed to teach was the concept of high expectations and high love. Now this has been drilled into all of us how President had high love and high expectations for us. So I wanted to take it a different way. I wanted to teach how we can have HL&HE (I am tired of typing it all the way out) for our investigators but also our self. So sister Jeffery was going to teach how we can have it for ourselves while I was going to teach how we can have it for our investigators. I started off by reading something prescient wanted us to read. And man did the spirit take over. I was stressing so hard about this meeting because I didn't feel prepared, but boy the spirit just ran that meeting. While we talked and discussed about just missionary work we watched a video I shared recently on Facebook about the missionaries who were asked questions but they weren’t able to speak their answer they were just supposed to stay silent. If you haven't seen it, go to my Facebook and watch it ASAP haha it's so good. After my section was over and I was in tears sister Jeffery took over and knocked it out of the park. So good.  It gave me such the motivation just to work as hard as I can so I don't regret anything about my mission.  Gahhh so good haha!

Other than the bomb district meeting we took the ward list I have been talking about and put all the notes made on it, into our area books. So that future missionaries don't even have to have the list to see the notes. See how nice we are haha :)  we also presented the list to the ward and we have been working on sorting out the names of the less active members who have moved away. In return they actually gave us 15 names that we asked for at the start of the transfer......  Why it took us proving to them that we aren't scrubs to get those names idk. But now the sisters and elder Siebach have people to go see! Which is awesome!

Other than that, it was a pretty normal week! We did do some service at Muir woods! Which was way fun I will shoot some photos your way 😊

That's pretty much it! I know shorter email this week which is cool haha but yeah so I'm off to go pack and just say goodbye to people! Love you guys! Hope all of your week's were awesome!

Oh if you all get the chance, go read the talk the "blessings of worship"  from this last general conference! It's so good!!! Love you all!

Elder Field and the Case of the Missing Car

Elder Field thought maybe this week would be slower or maybe a little calmer than last week...... Oh friends and family I was wrong, this week was equally as crazy, if not more.....

Well the week started out pretty normal to be honest. The sisters were still out of a car so we had to drive them to all their appointments all while trying to make it to ours haha. It's been super fun though. The sisters are really cool and fun so we just had a blast every time we rode together.

We did our weekly planning on Tuesday this week because we didn't have a district meeting (which is awesome! I didn't have to teach, but really sad because we always have really good district meetings) the reason behind this is because we had Zone conference on Friday when we usually plan for week! So after a long day of planning our week out, we have been asked to do something really cool. So there is a little boy in the ward named Liam Huff, he has down syndrome, and his parents asked us if we would come over and teach him the missionary lessons to see if he wants to be baptized, I know what you are all thinking "doesn't Liam have a straight shot to the celestial kingdom?!" and the answer is of course he does! His parents just want us to teach him so he can make the decision himself to be baptized. So we had our first lesson with him (the sisters were there too ☺️)  we taught him all about Jesus and Joseph Smith and the book of Mormon.  He loved it haha he is the coolest kid haha he has a little sister who has down syndrome too and they are the cutest kids ever haha we have a lot of fun at those lessons. They just are so innocent in everything they do its amazing. They truly are God’s special gifts.

Wednesday is when the car troubles we took it in for just an oil change which took quite a while actually. We took it in at 9 and didn't get the car back till about 1 which was rough.... Didn't have the car for a while so we were stranded at the church studying, we also did a very long training session with Elder Siebach. Poor kid, it was so long he was about to die; don't worry we did something fun afterward. Our ward mission leader took us to lunch so he could decompress. Haha after that we did our usual food bank. We had another lesson with Liam that night. Taught him about the plan of salvation and how families are forever it was awesome :) we taught the Enstroms again and had an awesome lesson about the devotional "the blueprint of Christ’s church" such a good talk it went so good the spirit was so strong and they both opened up so much! She bore her testimony about modern day prophets it was so awesome.

Thursday wasn't too exciting we just did service for a member went and tried to find people from the ward then had a lesson with David Meyers that night.  All with the sisters haha.

Friday was Zone conference! It was awesome! President and his wife came and taught us about all sorts of stuff.  Stuff like how to be a better missionary, the doctrine if Christ, I performed a song with Hermana Foster again haha. We sang If You Could Hie to Kolob/Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing.  It was awesome! I love the song.  The version we sang was written for 3 girls so we had to adjust it slightly for 2 people and of course for me to be able to sing it.  Hahaha it was an adventure. We pretty we're in that training meeting for the entire day.

That night the sisters got a call.  The AP's were driving down to give them a temporary car. Yay they got a brand new Chevy Malibu for their temporary car! It's so freaking nice!! It was kinda sad I really like what we called the Quad Squad so we parted ways and that was the rest of the night.

Now Saturday is when it really started to get weird.  The morning started off fine. Me and Elder Siebach went to another meeting in Santa Rosa for new missionaries which was fun. On the way home we stopped by the church for lunch, we met up with the district to all have lunch with each other. We'll a random black woman walked into the church who was quite high on that good kush. She said she was a member who was looking for a place to stay the night. So we made some phone calls and told her she couldn't wait in the church. So we asked her to wait off church property because we weren't sure if she was a member. So we guided her to a place to wait and told her the bishop would get ahold of her. It isn't a missionary’s responsibility to deal with this so we told the bishop and he said he would Handle it. We went and had dinner.  Well while we were having dinner we got a flurry of texts and calls. After dinner we checked our phone and noticed that it was all from this lady. So one of the texts said that she made it back into the building. We panicked and drove over there quickly. Sure enough there was a youth activity going on and she was let in.  When they finished she refused to leave. So we drove over really quickly and sure enough there she was yelling at the Spanish branches young men President. We quickly intervened and talked to her. She was furious started throwing out the race card and telling us how it was revolting that we were going to make her wait outside and all this stuff and how no one got into contact with her... It was just a big mess. We had the sisters stay in the car for safety while they tried to get ahold of Bishop and what not.  While we waited for Bishop to arrive we stayed with her and read the book of Mormon and tried to make good small chat.  This woman was insane..... So fun stuff haha...  We didn't get the situation settled until about 9:15 so we were quite exhausted. We parked our car then crashed hard.

The next morning, we woke up and our car was missing. We had parked in a school parking lot. NOW BEFORE ANYONE SAYS ANYTHING IT WAS LEGAL TO DO SO. There is an elementary school in front of our apartment. There is a small parking lot that you are allowed to park there on Saturdays and Sundays. Missionaries have been doing this for years and years, well we noticed that one of the signs had been duct taped over. Blocking the part of the sign that says you are allowed to. Our car had gotten towed.... Other cars that were parked there from last night and they didn't get towed. So it is Sunday and I'm calling around to see where the freak they took our car.  We finally got ahold of the tow truck company and they explained the situation. It's going to be a $400 fine to get our freaking car back. We called the mission office and explained the situation and they even believe us!! They towed our car illegally.  There are a lot of shady things that happened around this incident.  So the signs were just barley duct taped (which I'm pretty sure that doesn't mean anything because those signs have the law and where to find it in the city law books on them and the law says that what we did was legal, I don't think duct tape as authority to change that) they towed our car somewhere between 9:30 and 10:15 which was stupid because that is literally right when we pulled in. And they towed us on a Saturday night. Which according to the law and the signs, it's completely legal to park there...... Elder Field is frustrated if you can't tell haha.  So we had 2 cars for about a day and now we are back down to 1 until they figure out what to do about our car situation. We think we got targeted and they towed us specifically. Who knows.... Anyway I will keep all ya posted on the situation. We have been told just to wait because the mission office is going to try and handle it.  Who knows what will happen.  We took plenty of photos proving our innocence......

Other than that church was good and the rest of the day was good expect for me just freaking out about the car situation.  I still am freaking out haha.

Anyway that’s it for my week hopefully your week was good too! I love you all! Hope you all have a good coming week! Love you guys!

Elder Field and the Torrential Storm

Hey everybody

So a lot of you asked if i have been experiencing the raining and flooding that northern California has been getting.....

......yes..... yes, I have......

My dear friends and family never have I experienced rain like this..... except for that one time in Florida when we got caught in tropical storm Andrea, that was interesting hahah. Never has the primary song "The rains came down and the floods came up" spoken more true to my soul ;)

Now don’t worry I myself have not flooded, but the roads most definitely have haha. Anyway! I will explain more about the rain and wind later!

This week has probably been the most eventful week of the mission haha, the week actually started our pretty rough...... I talked about Celeste last week..... well, we had a lesson with her on Monday that went alright, we then scheduled a church tour with her on Tuesday. Well.... the church tour was going awesome until the very end. She informed us that she doesn't want to get baptized and that she will be remaining Catholic. :( She broke up with us. We told her how much we loved her and talked to her and found out that she would feel like a traitor if she converted. So she made up her mind and said she will not. We had to drop her as an investigator unfortunately.... we told her she has our number if she changes her mind. So I will keep her in my prayers and hopefully she has a change of heart :) Either she will accept it in this life OR I know for a fact that she will accept it in the next :)

That's pretty much the only exciting things until Thursday haha. We did a lot of less active finding and tracting actually haha not much success, but it's all good. Good experiences for Elder Siebach since it was his first tracting experience. Hahaha it was kind of cool to watch. He was so scared to knock on the door and I looked at him and he was just white face. So we had a conversation that went like this.

"Wait, you’re making me knock on the door?!"
"Uhhhh, yes Elder. Haha and I'm making you teach the gospel… kinda what you are called to do"
"Dude I don't know..."
"Bro! Haven't you been dreaming of being a missionary your entire life?!"
"Well yeah...."
"Dude you’re a missionary right now!! You have been dreaming of knocking doors and talking to people since you were in primary!"
"Well, yeah, I guess you are right."
"You know I'm right! Now buck up and knock that door and convert that person!"
"Yeah!!" *knocks on door really loud*
"Woah Woah Woah don't want to pound the door down or freak the poor people out!"
*we both proceed to laugh quite hard*

Guys I freaking love Elder Siebach. It's really cool watching him experience all the "firsts" of missionary work haha.

Anyway things got really interesting Thursday night. After a long day of tracting we went to the church to fill up water bottles, sit down for a hot second, update area book etc. Well we pulled up to the church and noticed that the sister missionaries were here and their car was...... very broken. Their back bumper was destroyed and they had no left tail light, (forgot to take pictures sorry!) I then go all district leader momma bear mode and run in the church to see what happened! The sisters were sitting in the family history corner. Sitting at the computer, I walked in and they sheepishly said hi, I very casually asked them about their car. They had gotten into an accident on the freeway. They were stopped in traffic in a long line of cars that were trying to get off the freeway. Well a FREAKING MOVING VAN swerved into their lane and plowed into them. The damage was surprisingly low because that moving van was going at least 40 MPH. And they didn't hit the car in front of them. And they were uninjured except for some whiplash. Can you say protected by God!? Ahahah. After explaining all this, they were trying to fill out the accident report online. But they were both dazed and shocked about what happened they couldn't do it, and it just so happened that all our lessons that night got canceled. Strange how that happened right?? ;)  So my companion and I stayed and filled out the report for them. Then we called the mission office to let them know what happened. We went to dinner, then after dinner we went back to the church to figure out what to do for the night. Well sister Jeffery was still in a daze so we called the mission nurse and explained what happened. She told us we needed to go to the emergency room....... I guess it is church protocol. So we spent the rest of the night in the emergency room. They were totally fine and they were prescribed some pain killers, so yeah hahaha fun night.....

Now we are in a pickle hahaha the sisters have no car. So Elder Siebach and I have become their taxi service haha we drive them to appointments. Hahha it's a lot of fun.

Friday we weekly planned with the sisters to coordinate our schedules haha.

Saturday we did a boonies trip with the sisters. We bought a bunch of snacks, water bottles and then headed to go visit all the less actives on the out skirts of the ward boundaries.  People who live roughly and hour or more away from the church haha.  That took us 5 hours haha it was fun though. Met some really awesome people and really crusty people like usual haha.

Sunday was awesome and crazy busy. Had an awesome ward council where we presented our work on the ward list haha. They were very impressed about it. And it looks like a I'll be getting a lot more help from the ward which is awesome!! :) We also taught a primary class...... which I don’t know if it’s allowed, but the ward was in a huge pinch so we helped out.... that was..... fun..... ahahah very crazy though....
We also went to Catholic mass this Sunday along with Sacrament Meeting haha!! We went with the sisters investigator Jim!! It was super cool!! It was really cool to see the similarities between churches!! Haha they are so close to the truth they just...... are missing some pieces haha! Anyway just thought I would include that :)
Anywho! That's pretty much it for this week!!! Hope all of you had a great week! Know that I love you all lots!! :) Know that God loves you all and he truly does know each and every one of you and is giving you strength everyday :)

Love you!!

Elder Field Has Good News...And Bad News

Hey fam!

I know that subject line sounds ominous, but don't worry I'm good :) hahah alright the good news and the bad news has to do with investigators that we are teaching. Everything else is wonderful haha!

Anyway! This week was pretty slow with teaching visits. We had a lot of people cancel on us, or people just weren't home.  They were still just out with family or something like that.  Who knows hahaha. But this week we got a lot done with the ward list. I don't know if I have ever explained the ward list before, if I have and I have completely forgot, I'm sorry please forgive me because I'm going to explain it again. You can just skip the next paragraph, OR you can read it because I'm going to explain it in a fun way ;)

*clears throat*

Let me spin you a tale, it's a grotesque tale, a tale that has frightened off missionaries for 5 years....... this is the tale of the San Rafael 2nd ward member list......

*lightning flashes* *thunder crackles* *scary organ plays*

Once upon a time, there were 3 wards that used to reside in the San Rafael city area.  For some strange reason these 3 wards condensed into 1 single ward. This ward is a wonderful ward. Full of very active and devout members.  Full of kind souls looking for ways to share the gospel. This congregation was a very small group consisting of about 70-80 saints who attended their meetings on a weekly basis.

Elder Field, Elder Siebach, Sister Jeffery, and Sister Neilson all were transferred into the ward with the most righteous intentions to help this ward grow and flourish. To find ways to maybe find the lost sheep who had wandered away from the fold. To begin their course of action they asked for a full copy of the ward list. But what they received was a journey that would take them 1 and 1/2 transfers for them to accomplish. The ward list was placed before them. The number of baptized members who should be in the ward….1068 members. That means over 900 people in the area were inactive. Scared for their life they started searching for help. Along the way the discovered efforts from past missionaries who have undertaken this great journey and have failed. Ward lists with notes on them, dating back to 2008. A total of 18 different missionary lists were found, all with different notes and markings. The Nobel 4 devised a plan, they will abridge these lists as Mormon did of old.

*scary organ stops playing*
*clears throat again*

Anyway I hope you all enjoyed that theatrical explanation ;) The big happy awesome thing we did this week is we fully abridged that list. We now have a ward list devising of all the missionary notes from the past with plenty of our own. We are going to sit down with the Bishopric here soon devise a plan of attack on the list. The Bishopric is actually pretty impressed with our efforts and are backing us 100% which is really exciting :) so pray that this goes well and that we can find good people to teach and reactivate :) I want so desperately to see this ward grow. :)

Anyway now to the good news/bad news portion about investigators. Well as you know we have been working with a lady named Celeste. She has a Baptismal Date set for the 14th of this month. The bad news is we are going to have to push the date back again and possibly drop her as an investigator, because she isn't showing up to church and is only half keeping commitments..... we are very saddened by this :( She has that desire to be baptized and she knows it's true, she just...... Isn't committing to it :( and it breaks my heart..... We are going over tonight to talk to her about it and to see what's holding her back. I'm not looking forward to this conversation, but it will be good and constructive hopefully. :)

The good news is instead of Celeste coming we got another investigator named Elise to commit to coming to church!! Unfortunately, she was extremely late and missed the entire Sacrament Meeting, but since church was only an hour this week there was a baptism right after for an 8-year-old in the ward, so she came to that. We had an awesome conversation about the similarities and differences of Jehovah Witness’s baptismal services and ours. She was quite pleased and liked how ours was done :) We talked a little more about what baptism means and how it's important. She was curious about the interview process and asked what questions were asked, so we busted out the questions and went over them with her. We had such an awesome mini lesson right there. She had concerns and I think we cleared them up really well. We introduced her to the sister missionaries. They got talking and me and Elder Siebach got distracted by some ward members offering us pizza (yes I was distracted by pizza does this shock any of you ;) ) we talked with them for a bit and we turned around and she was just in tears....... I started freaking out internally. I walked up and the sisters and her finished up whatever conversation they were having and then she told us she had to go. We walked her to her car and she drove away. It was a really good visit!! But I really wanted to know what the sisters were talking about, so I went up and asked Sister Jeffery. She told me:

"We were just talking about the talk I gave in sacrament meeting about love and charity being the pure love of Christ and I just told her about how much you Elders loved her. How you Elders love her the way Christ loves her. And she broke down a started crying. She told us she has never felt so much love and fellowship from any other church. But she felt it here and she really loves it here."

My heart then just broke and then repaired itself to do an Irish jig all at once. I can't wait to see Elise again!!! Hopefully we will extend a Baptismal invite :) and another cool thing her sons have been asking about us!!! She said that she has taken them to study and attend other churches, but all they ask about is ours!!

Guys isn't life awesome when we have the spirit with us!! Haha the spirit just constantly testifies to others that there is something different about us, something good about us :) it's awesome!

Anyway I think that's all the highlights from this week!! Other than we had root beer floats on New Year’s Eve with Officer Horner :) He is a member who takes us out anytime we see him haha! I will have photos :)

Anyway I love you all and I hope you all start out 2017 a little bit better than how you started last year! Go make some spiritual goals!! I know I have a huge list of things I want to achieve this year! And I think I should be able to do it! I'm on my mission for this entire year! I'm excited!!!

2017 here I come!!

Love you all!!!
